Motivated by her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher, Sandra K. Goddard spent 37 years in the field before retiring. She loved her students, and had a fantastic relationship with parents. Her reputation led her to rapidly advance through the field and to accrue experience in a variety of roles. Ms. Goddard’s most recent positions were spelling bee co-coordinator for the Edison Local Spelling Bee, Praxis III assessor for the Ohio Department of Education, media club adviser for Springfield Middle School, and elementary grades teacher at Springfield Middle School. Other notable jobs were cooperating teacher at Franciscan University, textbook committee member at Jefferson County Schools, presenter at the Ohio Regional Teachers Workshop, and teacher at Gregg Elementary School. To prepare for her career, Ms. Goddard earned a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Science in education from Miami University.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Ms. Goddard was very active in her community. She was a member of the Edison Local Council on Drug Education and the Edison Local Curriculum Instruction Committee, a state judge for the Ashland Oil Teacher Achievement Awards, a regional and state judge for Odyssey of the Mind, and the treasurer of the Ohio Valley UNISERV Council, among many others. Additionally, Ms. Goddard served on the appeals board, the president’s cabinet and the executive committee of the Ohio Education Association, the negotiation’s team and the executive committee of the Edison Local Education Association, and the executive committee of the Eastern Ohio Education Association.
Ms. Goddard’s hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. In both 1994 and 1991, she was selected as a grantee of Jefferson County Schools, and from 1972 to 1973, she was selected as a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar. Further, she was honored with inclusion in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who of American Women.
When Ms. Goddard has free time, she enjoys singing, reading, theater, photography, and collecting Hummel figurines and bells. She also maintains a variety of positions with the American National Red Cross. Some of these include CPR professional rescuer, county disaster team professional rescuer, and instructor in first aid, CPR, and AED.
