Who's Who of Professional Women

CASEY WALSH

Casey Walsh, AuD, embarked on her professional studies at Florida State University in 2011. In 2013, she was recognized for her academic excellence with a Meritorious Poster Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a travel grant through the Student Council for Undergraduate Research and Creativity. Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in communication sciences and disorders in 2015, Dr. Walsh continued her education at the University of South Alabama, during which time she received a scholarship from the Office of International Admissions and Programs, a travel grant from the American Academy of Audiology, and the Marjorie Faircloth Scholarship in Audiology.

Dr. Walsh began her career while still a student, serving as a graduate assistant with the University of South Alabama from 2015 to 2018 and a graduate student clinician for the USA Speech and Hearing Center from 2016 to 2018. Throughout this period, she also served as a graduate student clinician with Ascent Audiology & Hearing in 2016 and held the same role with Naro Audiology & Hearing Solutions, The Hearing Center, Children’s Rehabilitation Services, and Eastern Shore ENT in 2017. Briefly serving as a graduate student clinician for Gulfport ENT in 2018, she served as an audiology extern for the Central Florida Speech & Hearing Center from 2018 to 2019. Dr. Walsh achieved her Doctor of Audiology from the University of South Alabama in 2019.

Certified in clinical competence in audiology and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Dr. Walsh has excelled as an audiologist with Gainesville ENT & Allergy Associates since 2019. As she treats patients who range in age from newborn to geriatric, her day-to-day duties involve serving as the hearing and balance doctor, evaluating hearing loss, and providing amplification devices for patients if the diagnosed hearing loss cannot be medically treated. She considers the most gratifying part of her career to be seeing people’s overall health improve with hearing aids. Dr. Walsh recalls one patient in particular whose hearing aids enabled them to regain confidence walking after a serious fall because they could hear their footsteps.

Attributing much of her success to hard work and her strong work ethic, Dr. Walsh has made a name for herself for her emphasis on getting to know her patients and treating them as if they were part of her family. She feels that getting to know your patients is vitally important to find out what they are struggling with so that the patients’ needs can be addressed. Her greatest motivator has always been helping people regain the ability to communicate because when someone is unable to communicate with the people around them, it is an incredibly isolating experience. Very proud of how she has flourished as an audiologist, Dr. Walsh notes that her goals for the future include establishing her own private practice.

Dr. Walsh hopes to develop a reputation as a physician who is able to manage a wide range of auditory issues. Every patient is different, meaning there is no “one size fits all” solution to hearing loss. Even if two patients have the same base issue, the same hearing aid might not work for both of them due to a variety of other issues. Continuing to learn every day, she feels she will be a totally different clinician in five years through the ongoing growth in skill and expertise she gains from working with patients. Dr. Walsh maintains professional affiliation with the Academy of Doctors of Audiology and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in order to keep abreast of new developments in her field. She has also been active with the Student Academy of Audiology, where she spent time as vice president.

Alongside her primary responsibilities, Dr. Walsh has contributed her expertise to yearly medical mission trips to Guatemala, where she helps people from underserved populations get fitted with hearing aids. This follows her early study abroad work in South Africa, working with hospitals and providing hearing screenings. When she is not working, she enjoys singing and has been a member of the Gainesville Master Chorale since 2022. They performed an opera in April and will be singing in Carnegie Hall in 2023. Dr. Walsh also loves to cuddle up with her two cat babies, Luna and Sylvie.
