Aron Jones, MA, grew up a deep, abiding passion for animals, even though she was not allowed to have pets growing up. As she began her career as an associate professor at Red Rocks Community College in 2006, and through her time as a technology teacher at Eagle Ridge Academy from 2013 to 2017, she volunteered with and helped to organize a number of civic groups helping children, elderly persons and dogs. Bonnie Ann Mauger has spent decades building and enjoying a diverse career in fields including security, investigation and research, and the travel industry. Always wanting to be a veterinarian, Laurian Rauen applied to veterinarian school twice and was accepted both times, but her mother told her that if she chose that path, she would be on her own from there. She decided to listen to her mother’s warnings and never pursued veterinarian school again. However, she had been involved with animals in some capacity throughout her entire life. Working with animals had always been her passion. Ms. Rauen got her first parrot between 30 and 40 years ago, and continued to rescue them for years to come. LAURIE ZALESKI

Laurie Zaleski is a truly remarkable, accomplished, self-determined and inspirational woman living in southern New Jersey. Her mother, Anne McNulty, rented a home for 28 years while working for an animal control service and raising four children on her own. Anne would save every animal she could that once faced no hope. She called it her “funny farm” because most of the animals were misfits, but she loved them just the same.
