Brenda R. Velazquez was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States in 1987 at the age of 7. It was this background, combined with her desire to support her family and the encouragement of her husband of 20 years, Luis Erik Velazquez Sr., to which she attributes much of her current success. She was further inspired by her father, an engineer, and developed a great love for marketing, business and construction. This led to her establishing Future Sign Co. in 2001, alongside her husband and mother-in-law, while working toward her citizenship, which she achieved in 2004. Possessing a natural talent for art, Sara Bertka’s high school, Bluffton High School in Ohio, had a well-developed art program that exposed her to many different options, forms and mediums of art. She started off on the path of fine arts, but she began to desire to make art a career after graduating in 2016. That was when Ms. Bertka found a school for graphic and digital design, pursuing a formal education at the School of Advertising Art, now known as the Modern College of Design, in Kettering, Ohio, where she graduated as valedictorian and attained an Associate of Arts in 2018. Motivated by creativity and a deep appreciation for aesthetics, Janice Lynn Bennett has dedicated her life to making beautiful things. She had always loved drawing, so she decided to channel her talent into a career as a graphic artist. She proceeded to earn a Bachelor of Arts in graphic design with a minor in journalism from Northern Illinois University in 1973, and started as a graphic artist at Montgomery Ward in Illinois later that year. Ms. Bennett advanced rapidly; after giving birth to her son Scott in 1974, she became the assistant production manager and art director of Crow Publications in 1977, and the owner, graphic artist and typographer of several Colorado-based companies between 1980 and 1989. While working in advertising when her son was just 18 months old, Michelle L. Brandriss recalls being suddenly exposed to innovative ideas in the area of baby products. When she was dropping him off at daycare, she would use masking tape and Sharpies to label his belongings. Going into that field just made sense to her; it was during a time where matching items were coming out and, being a new mom, she loved seeing her child’s name on everything. KAY L. JOHANNES

Remembered as trustworthy, honest, kind, and fair, Kay L. Johannes really made a mark on the visual communications field. Her passion for art drove her to earn an Associate of Applied Science in visual communications at Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1972, and set her on the path she would follow the rest of her career.
