Born in Beijing, Ivy Chang came to the United States with her family, by way of Taiwan where she attended private school in Taipei, in 1955. Entering the public school system in Minnesota, she had to learn English on her own while attending school as there were no English as a second language programs at the time. Repeating first grade in order to gain a better grasp on the language, she excelled in her studies and, following her graduation from high school, she joined the University of Minnesota to pursue a postsecondary education. Daveline Ching

DAVELINE CHING

After receiving a cancer diagnosis in 1996, Daveline Ching was greatly aided on her journey to recovery by the American Cancer Society. For 10 years, she battled thyroid cancer, and developed a rare and almost unknown disease that paralyzed her from the waist down. With help from the American Cancer Society, she was able to receive treatment at the Mayo Clinic, where she was diagnosed with Stiffman’s Syndrome. Now cancer and Stiffman’s free, Ms. Ching dedicates her time and resources to contributing to others in the same way that the American Cancer Society had supported her. A graduate of Roosevelt University, Judith Ellen Hamill initially earned a Bachelor of Music from Roosevelt University in 1975. Four years later, she received a master’s degree in urban planning and police from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Furthermore, she concluded her academic efforts with a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University in 1982. Since 2010, Ms. Hamill has excelled as the director of government relations for the John Marshall School of Law at the University of Chicago.
