LEANN MYERS

LeAnn MyersKnowing she wanted to pursue a career in medicine from a young age, LeAnn Myers, MSN, RN, completed an allied health program while still in high school. Furthermore, during her senior year, she was deeply impacted by her aunt being in a car accident and witnessing the medical care her aunt received afterward, which cemented for Ms. Myers that she was on the right path. She earned an associate degree in nursing from Delaware County Community College in 2009 and began her career as a staff registered nurse with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia that same year, eventually becoming the lead registered nurse by the time she left in 2013. During this time, she studied at West Chester University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing science in 2012.

In 2013, Ms. Meyers joined Nemours Children’s Health as the nursing manager, rising to become the director of clinical operations in 2014 and the director of both clinical operations and quality improvement in 2019. Continuing to further her education, she completed a Master of Science in nursing administration at Wilmington University in 2017 and was certified as an advanced nurse executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center that same year. Ms. Meyers capped off her studies with a fellowship through Leadership Delaware and achieved the position of director of quality improvement with Westside Family Healthcare, a health care organization that prioritizes low-income families, in 2019.

Ms. Myers wears multiple hats within Westside Family Healthcare, but her main duties focus on examining their current processes and looking for ways to improve them. She ensures that the care they are giving meets their standards and best practices; helps struggling patients get care; acts as an infection prevention nurse, protecting both their staff and their patients; and monitors regulatory compliance. In order to keep abreast of new developments in her field, she maintains professional affiliation with the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Alongside her primary career responsibilities, Ms. Myers has served on the board of directors for Child, Inc. since 2020. She has also spent time on the board of the Delaware Help Initiative and as a member of the Delaware Board Advisory Committee. In 2019, she authored “Managing the Aggressive Child: A Toolkit for Safe Care” through the Children’s Hospital Association, and she has an upcoming talk on domestic violence in Wilmington, Delaware. When she isn’t working, Ms. Myers enjoys spending time exercising, competing in triathlons, and spending time with her son and daughter.

Attributing much of her success to having a supportive leadership team, Ms. Myers is also deeply grateful to the mentors she has had throughout her education and career, including Denise Smith, her first clinical nurse educator; Mary Huntingon, a former business partner; and Megan Werner, her current leader. She is skilled in risk assessment and has made a name for herself for her never-ending curiosity and her drive to keep learning at all times. For her excellence, Ms. Myers was named 40 Under 40 by the Delaware Business Times, something that she cites as the highlight of her career thus far.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Myers plans to run for public office in the state of Delaware in order to bring her expertise and talents to a role that will allow her to impact the landscape of health care in a much broader and more direct way. She strives to create a legacy as someone who is fun to work with, but also highly capable, motivated and a consummate professional. Feeling strongly that in order to make a difference in your community, you need to trust in yourself and push against the grain, Ms. Myers would advise young and aspiring professionals that there is no “one size fits all” position and you need to find yourself and what you want and embrace that.
