Olivia M. Tourgee, Esq. is a law clerk and associate attorney at DLA Piper LLP, one of the world’s top international firms, where she has practiced since 2019. A specialist in corporate law and white-collar crime, she primarily handles cases relating to securities fraud, corporate fraud, and insider trading. She is deeply involved in working with partners of the firm as well as the SCC and Department of Justice in addition to reviewing case documents and providing in-depth legal writing and research for clients. Her recent cases have included representing a large biopharmaceutical company in a joint United States Department of Justice-Securities and Exchange Commission investigation, a regional public transportation department’s infrastructure expansion project, and a class-action suit against Kansas state foster care officials. Ms. Tourgee’s interest in law was first sparked by her father, who worked as an attorney, and she recalls having a childhood fascination with his practice that only increased as she grew up.

In 2014, Ms. Tourgee graduated from Florence University of the Arts with a Bachelor of Arts, and earned a second Bachelor of Arts in history, politics, philosophy, and management at Fairfield University in 2016. While completing her undergraduate studies, she joined the school’s pre-law society, which often invited alumni from legal professions to speak to current students, and only encouraged her further. She was awarded her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2019 by St. John’s University School of Law, and has been admitted to practice law in the state of New York. A gifted and driven student, Ms. Tourgee was awarded a federal scholarship to attend St. John’s University, and was routinely in both the honors program and on the dean’s list at every school she attended. She is a proud alumni of St. John’s University Law School, emphasizing that she “could not have found success without her St. John’s family and network” and the top-notch legal education she received.

Joining DLA Piper, LLP has been the highlight of Ms. Tourgee’s professional life thus far, and she is deeply proud of the work that she has done to reach her current position. She attributes her success to her work ethic, perseverance, and ability to stay focused on her goals, even if they require short-term sacrifices. She advises others that patience and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are the cornerstones of finding professional success and balance. In her personal time, she is active in her area 4H chapter and the women’s law section of the New York Bar Association, and donates a significant amount of pro bono casework through DLA Piper, LLP. Ms. Tourgee looks forward to further developing her business law practice, continuing to learn from both her peers in the firm and its partners, and remaining with DLA Piper, LLP for many years to come.
