RITA M. BARREDO

For more than four decades, Rita M. Barredo faced every day with perseverance, hard work, and a determination to succeed. She wanted to be able to do things on her own, so she set her own goals and paved her own path through the financial field. Her efforts paid off, as, after nearly 10 years as a timekeeper for Timex Group USA, Inc., she finally became an auditor with the Defense Contract Audit Agency in Lowell, Mass. Ms. Barredo held that position from 1985 until her retirement in 2016.

Proud of her achievements throughout her journey, Ms. Barredo considers one of the highlights of her career to be getting certified with the CPA in the state of Connecticut. She is also proud to be a diplomate through the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute and the American Board of Forensic Accountants, and a certified information systems auditor, information technology professional, government auditing professional, management accountant, and internal auditor. Further, she holds a Master of Arts in public history from Central Connecticut State University, an MBA and a Master of Science in accounting from the University of Hartford, a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Post University, and a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Connecticut, as well as certification in Homeland Security.

In Ms. Barredo’s spare time, she enjoys pursuing interests like genealogy, history, and reading. She has maintained positions as a corporator for the Torrington Historical Society since 2014, as a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists since 2013, the Utah Genealogical Association and the Torrington Chapter of UNICO National since 2006, and the Continuing Professional Education Committee of the CTCPA since 1997, and as the secretary of the Waterbury Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants, Inc., since 1994. Previously, she was affiliated with the Social and Recreation Committee of the CTCPA, the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute, the AWSCPA, The Institute of Internal Auditors, ISACA, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, and the Connecticut Historical Society.
